How do I clean my DEF quality sensor?

To safely and effectively clean your DEF quality sensor, follow these proper steps:

  1. Prep & Safety First
    Turn off and fully cool the engine, disconnect the vehicle battery, and put on protective gloves and eyewear. Gather lint-free cloths, a DEF-compatible cleaner or 90%+ high-purity isopropyl alcohol, and basic hand tools.
  2. Locate & Access the Sensor
    Refer to your vehicle service manual to find the exact position of the DEF quality sensor, then carefully remove it with appropriate tools to avoid damaging wiring or surrounding components.
  3. Gentle Cleaning Process
    Dip a soft-bristled brush or microfiber cloth in the cleaning solution, gently wipe the sensor surface to remove DEF crystals and contaminants. Never use abrasive materials that will scratch the precision sensing element, and do not use regular tap water to avoid mineral residue.
  4. Dry & Reinstall
    Pat the sensor completely dry with a clean lint-free cloth, make sure no moisture remains. Then reinstall the sensor, reconnect the battery, and test its function to confirm normal operation.

Note: If the sensor has internal damage like diaphragm fatigue or circuit degradation, cleaning will not work and you need to replace it instead.
